BDP-S300 Blu-Ray

Reviews of the BDP-S300 Sony

Below are a selection of reviews of the BDP-S300 blu-ray dvd player.

Review One

"I recently bought a Panasonic Viera HD television and decided I would take the plunge into the High Definition world of the DVD at the same time. I went for a Blu-Ray dvd player after reading that Warner Bros had pulled out of HD-DVD format and the future of that product was not looking great.

After reading review's on Amazon and a number of other websites I decided to purchase a BDP-S300 model.

My 1st thoughts when I took the BDP-S300 out of it's box was how stylish it was, the picture you see on the web really does not do it proper justice. The machine is a bit big, probably twice as deep as my normal DVD player but I still fitted it in the cabinet comfortably.

Set-up is very simple as should really be expected and within a few minutes I was ready to play my first BDP-S300 DVD. I chose 'The Prestige', and the effect's were absolutely amazing and I felt justified that my money had been well spent.

I've read a lot about slow loading times but haven't really found that a problem, between 20-30 seconds normally, not really something worth getting upset about.

On a seperate note, the Blu-Ray DVD's are still very expensive and if you're considering buying an HD TV set you might be better off going for a DVD player that up-scales your original collection and wait for the price of the Blu-Ray players to come down a bit like it appears to have done with the new BDP-S350. However, if like myself you can't wait then I recommend the BDP-S300 Blu-Ray to you as good value for money. "

Review Two

"I've had my BDP-S300 Blu-Ray since the end of May and agree with most of the positive reviews I've read. I'm pleased I was warned about the slow starting up otherwise I would have thought I had a problem, it really does seem like an eternity from switching on, although I have worked out that my standard DVD discs load up much faster. I haven't updated the BDP-S300 firmware, on the thinking that if it aint broke, don't fix it, so I am only going to do this if I find a Blu-ray disc that won't play.

I did have a problem with registering with Sony for the free movies on offer at the time. The registration disc that came with the BDP-S300 took me to their site, but it kept rejecting my application. Not impressed it took an age to be able to actually write to Sony support, and when they finally replied, they said that this offer had already expired. I had to keep on at them for ages but they have now said I will receive them in the next 28 days. Maybe they are too busy with the launch of the BDP-S550. Like other reviewers, I've been seriously impressed by the quality on my Sony Bravia, and I never used to watch films except at the cinema!"

Review Three

"After much careful thought and consideration I bought my BDP-S300 over the BDP-S500 from Sony. Now Toshiba have dropped their rival HD DVD format I'm convinced I've done the right thing. After setting the BDPS300 up to my Sony Bravia HD TV and home cinema system, I put Casino Royale in on Blu Ray. The Picture and sound were both phenominal!
Startup isn't the quickest but it is worth waiting for. I have also downloaded the BDPS300 firmware from the sony website and followed their instructions to up date it. This was easy and gives me confidence that it will be compatable for future BD-R Discs. Now I'm just waiting on all the new films being released on blu-ray so I can enjoy them in full HD."
